Ms. Lisl Gunderman
Elementary
Ms. Gunderman loves school and she always wanted to be a teacher! Her motto is "Have Fun and Be Excellent!" Lisl Gunderman has been a teacher at Wildwood School for over 30 years. She has taught most subjects here from Grade 4 through to Grade 9. Originally from Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Lisl obtained her Education Degree at the University of Alberta. She won the Outstanding First Year Teacher Award of Yellowhead School Division after the 92-93 school year. She is known to have "grand-students" here meaning she has the pleasure of teaching the children of some of her former students. A wish to learn more about land based learning led Lisl to start a teaching partnership with Ms. Maxine Hildebrandt, an exceptional Indigenous teacher of Indigenous students at the Mother Earth's Children's Charter School. Together the pair collaborated on a successful multi-year cultural exchange project that eventually came to be recognized on a national level. Maxine and Lisl were awarded the Medal for the Canadian Governor General's History Award for Excellence in Teaching by the Governor General in Ottawa, Canada in 2019. Ms. Gunderman feels the community of Wildwood has a remarkable history and uniquely interesting people and she is very grateful to work at Wildwood School.
